The Well Retreat Center

Who We Are

   The Well is situated on 23 acres of rural property which includes a spring-fed lake of approximately 2-3 acres. The land is mostly field with plenty of open areas and places to walk. We have now added a 1500' long spiral Cosmic Walk Meditation that people may use for prayer.  This walking meditation allows participants to experience the story of the unfolding of the Universe--all done to scale.  Meditation booklets for the walk are available.

The Well Retreat Center is operated by the Catholic Diocese of Richmond, Virginia.  The Retreat Center Administrators are Tom and Linda Ashe.  Tom and Linda have been supervising The Well since July 2005.

Philosophy

and

Mission Statement

The purpose of The Well Retreat Center is to:

  • provide a place of silence and solitude for groups and individuals who seek to be with God;
  • maintain an atmosphere for the enhancement of prayer, reflection, and discernment;
  • promote wholeness of mind, body, and spirit, by using enrichment programs for spiritual development; and,
  • help build community among God's people by offering a place where people rest, work, pray, and play together.

Approved by the Council of Stewards of The Well Retreat Center, June 3, 1990.

An authentic spirituality incorporates work for social justice.  We try to model that aspect of spirituality by  "twinning" with a retreat center in Haiti (Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere) and promoting  ecological awareness and responsibility here in our own country and throughout the planet.

Here at The Well, we feel called to be a part of the Richmond Diocese's invitation to "twin" with a parish or group in Haiti  We are now "twinned" with a retreat center, which is run by the Little Sisters  of the Incarnation, in the Diocese of Hinche in Haiti.  Sr. Immanuel, the superior of the Little Sisters, has visited here and brought us some of the crafts made by the local women and the sisters for us to sell for them.  ALL proceeds are returned to the Haitian people.  Our Council of Stewards decided to also ear-mark 10% of any money we raise through fundraising activities to go to our "twinned" retreat center.
